Den nye boken om Aaslands ætten er i skrivende stund klar for trykking og innbinding. Bokverket blir på to bind, hvert på 900 sider. | The new book is presently ready for printing and binding. The book will consist of two volumes, each of 900 pages. | |
Som leder for komitéen som har jobbet med denne bokoppdateringen i nå over 8 åtte år, er jeg både stolt og glad for å kunne presentere dette nye bokverket. Det vil være klart for distribusjon til de som har bestilt bøkene i midten av juli. | As the leader for the committee having done the updating work for about eight years, I am proud and glad to be able present this new contribution to the family’s history. | Etter oppstart i 2005 har komitéen hatt regelmessige møter for å diskutere spesielle saker som har oppstått og for å holde tritt med fremdriften av prosjektet. Vi besluttet på et tidlig tidspunkt å reflektere mottatte opplysninger i det språket som ble innrapportert til oss. Vi har ikke ønsket å oversette all informasjon til norsk. Derfor fremstår selve slektstreet i denne boken som en blanding mellom flere språk. | After the commencement of the work the committee has met regularly to discuss particular matters that have arisen and to keep abreast of how the project is progressing. We decided at an early stage to reproduce all information received in the language reported to us. It was not our intention to translate everything into Norwegian. The Family Tree part of this book therefore consists of a mixture of languages. | |
Alle komitémedlemmene har gjort dette arbeidet på frivillig basis, uten noen form for økonomisk godtgjørelse. Hver enkelt har dekket sine respektive utgifter til telefon, porto og andre utgifter som er påløpt i løpet av de 8 årene komitéen har vært i arbeid. Vi har funnet familiemedlemmer i alle verdenshjørner. Dvs. at familien er representert i alle 5 verdensdeler. Majoriteten er dog i Norge og i USA | All the committee members have done this work on a voluntary basis, with no form of emolument. Each member has covered his or her outlays for telephone calls, postage and other expenses that have incurred during the eight years that the Committee has been working on this project. We have found family members in all corners of the world, meaning that the family is represented in all 5 continents. The majority however are in Norway and the USA. | |
Vi valgte å bruke familiedatabasen Embla Familie og Slekt. Dette programmet er ikke helt skreddersydd i forhold til de krav som komitéen hadde. Dette gjelder spesielt rapportgeneratoren som ikke er i stand til å lage en rapport som passer for vårt formål. Heldigvis har vi i komitéen hatt med Steinar Aasland som er den som laget rapportgeneratoren. Et helt nytt og meget omfattende dataprogram som vi har brukt og som dere ser resultatet av i denne boken. | We have chosen to use the genealogy database Embla Familie og Slekt, although the design of this software does not fully meet the committee’s requirements. This applies in particular to the report generator, which is not capable of producing a report that suits our purpose. Fortunately, one of our committee members was Steinar Aasland, who designed the new and comprehensive software we have used as a report generator, the results of which you can see in this book. | |
Da vi først startet å kontakte familiemedlemmer var dette på basis av adresselister fra 1979 som fort viste seg ikke å være helt up-to-date. Vi sendte ut brev til ca. 500 medlemmer og derifra har saken utviklet seg. Vi har brukt epost, Skype, Internett og telefon bl. a. Prosessen har tidvis vært treg da det har vært vanskelig noen ganger å finne frem til de rette personene. | When we first began to contact members of the family, it was on the basis of address lists from 1979, which soon proved to be not quite up to date. We sent out letters to about 500 family members and the project took off from there. Our channels of communication have included e-mail, Skype, the Internet and telephone. The process has been slow at times, because it has sometimes proved difficult to reach the right people. | |
Vi har støtt på et fåtall av personer som ikke har ønsket å bidra til oppdateringen av den nye boken. De kan imidlertid telles på en hånd. Noen få har også valgt ikke å svare oss på våre henvendelser. Igjen andre har vi ikke greid å spore opp. | We have encountered a minority of people who did not wish to contribute to the updating of the new book, but these can be counted on the fingers of one hand. A few others have chosen not to reply to our communications. Others again we have failed to trace. | |
Til gjengjeld har vi oppdaget deler av familier som tidligere ikke var blitt registrert. Dette har imidlertid gjort at familietreet er blitt tilført i størrelsesorden 250 personer som ellers ikke ville blitt registrert. | On the other hand, we have discovered some hitherto unregistered parts of the family. This means that the family tree has been augmented with the inclusion of about 250 persons who would not otherwise have been registered. | |

Vi har bl. a. mottatt en del bilder hvor vi ikke har vært i stand til å finne ut navnet til vedkommende. Vi har derfor ikke tatt disse bildene med i boken. | Finally, I should like to emphasise that the committee has done its best but cannot guarantee that all the information has been correctly registered. Among other things, we have received a number of photographs where we have been unable to discover the names of the subjects. These pictures have therefore not been included in the book. | |
